Programs Supported
Community Wellness
Each program funded by CPHI aligns with our mission to preserve, advance, and enrich public health in Cabarrus County.
Free cooking classes and community yoga are offered to the community throughout the year. The CCME Foundation provided a $50,000 grant to expand Lifestyle Medicine programing to offer culturally tailored activities that promote health through six pillars: plant-predominant nutrition, physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances, and positive social connections. Lifestyle Medicine is an evidence-based approach and medical specialty that prevents and treats chronic conditions like cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. Partnerships and community collaborations supported Spanish-language cooking demonstrations and Zumba classes, nutritious recipes, exercise equipment, and non-perishable food items. In addition, the funding is assisting two churches to build a recreation program for its Spanish-speaking members.
School Health
Since 2005, our Cabarrus County and Kannapolis City School Nurse Program has helped provide care for thousands of students throughout the school day by preventing, identifying, managing, and responding to health-related problems and injuries. Funds have supported full-time nurses for every school, medical equipment, and supplies.
Oral Health
CPHI supports CHA’s Dental Mobile Unit to provide high-quality, comprehensive services to uninsured or underinsured students. Students get linked to a new dental home while getting the dental care they need at school.
Harm Reduction and Recovery Support
Generous donations and contributions from community members help ensure access to care to CHA’s Harm Reduction and Recovery Support services. People in recovery, nurses, EMS, and trained volunteers provide wound care education, overdose reversal medications, communicable disease testing, supplies, and referrals to substance use treatment, detox, employment, and housing. A Certified Peer Support Specialist works with individuals to set their harm reduction and self-care goals; and helps establish Wellness Recovery Action Plans, an evidence-based practice found to improve progress in recovery. With previous funding, CPHI and CHA hosted a training series to educate community partners on recovery supportive housing and other services, contracting with a local housing provider to expand housing to include pregnant or parenting women in recovery.
